1. Consider the size. You want something that is going to fit your cake and look appropriate. A cake topper that is tiny on a huge cake is lost and looks out of place, however a cake topper that is huge may not fit on a smaller cake or again, look silly and out of place. So consider the size as you are shopping.

2.Consider the construction and material it’s made with. Most of the time this isn’t an issue, and if it is, it can be worked through, however a cake topper that is too heavy for a delicate cake could be a problem.

3. Consider the occasion. Obvious. A wedding cake topper probably needs to have a romantic theme, a birthday cake topper, a birthday theme!

4. Consider those the cake is honoring. How can you make it unique to them? What are there unique styles and likes?

5. Would you like an edible cake topper or simply a decorative one?

6. Consider your budget. Cake toppers range in price greatly, so consider your budget and what you would like to spend.
